Could Lower Gas Prices Mean Lower Mortgage Rates?

Early this week, Florida Realtors® released an article sating “Lower Gas Prices = Lower Mortgage Rates.”  We’ve all noticed the steady decrease in gas prices lately, which means most of us should have a little spare change left in our pockets.  But that’s not all, these oil prices are affecting our mortgage rates too! Mortgage rates are being pushed down by a lower inflation rate, which in turn is being caused by lower oil prices.

“Indeed, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.66 percent last week – the lowest average in 20 months – according to Freddie Mac‘s weekly mortgage market survey. Taking into account the median home price of $205,300, a 0.75 percentage point drop in mortgage rates could yield a savings of about $1,000 annually, according to NAR researchers.”

With lower gas prices and mortgage rates, 2015 is looking to be a great year for home-buyers.
